Recently, you may have heard that I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my lower spine. This is due to several injuries that I have experienced throughout my lifetime AND my way of thinking (yes, we all create our own reality). I also knew that I wasn’t going to accept the ‘can’t be cured’ by well meaning doctors. I wasn’t going to take pharmaceuticals for the pain and I wasn’t going to have surgery. I wanted to do everything naturally and so my research began.
First of all, what happens when you get a ‘can’t be cured’ diagnosis?
Personally, I spent five minutes crying and feeling sorry for myself, then I blew my nose, got up off the floor and started to do something about it! I mean, it wasn’t life threatening like so many other diagnoses people receive but as far as the doctor was concerned, I was about to have a life of pain and eventually, immobility. Not in a million years was this going to be my experience!! When your doctor gives you the ‘can’t be cured’ speech, firstly you need to understand that what they are really saying is – ‘We don’t have a pharmaceutical or medical procedure that can help you reverse this or cure this yet. We may be able to help you manage the symptoms but we can’t fix it.’ They really don’t mean that there isn’t a cure. It just means that if it isn’t pharmaceutical or surgical it isn’t in their line of sight. Don’t get me wrong, there are actually more and more doctor’s learning a holistic approach to health but at the moment, the norm is more the ‘can’t be cured’ type. That’s when it becomes our choice to explore other means. Our line of sight isn’t buffered with blinders, we have the option to seek out any means we see fit to help our health. This, most of the time, means turning towards natural options.
Additionally, I was aware of many people around the globe who have healed themselves of all sorts of ‘can’t be cured’ illnesses like cancer, Crohns disease, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis (and the list goes on) by using natural ways, no medical intervention. There are a lot of books out there detailing individual success and a few great movies. If you want to find inspiration, I suggest to start watching ‘Heal Documentary’, ‘You can heal your life – The movie’ or ‘What the bleep do we know?’
I was lucky to have a connection to someone whom I had witnessed heal themselves, my mother! A while back, after falling into an empty, concrete pool, breaking bones in her hand and coccyx, my mother proved the doctors wrong and healed herself in record time. After X-Ray’s they told her that she had completely snapped the bone in her hand and that she would need a specialist to pin or wire the bones back together. In the meantime, they would put a cast on so she didn’t do any further damage and they would see her in another eight days. Due to her coccyx, she was in a wheelchair and at home on crutches. During these eight days, my mother used Reiki constantly and also meditated, visualised and used her sheer determination to mend the broken bones (something that doctors said couldn’t be done without pins or wiring). Eight days later she walked into the doctor’s office (yes…walked!) and after another x-ray they told her the bones had completely healed and there was no need for surgery. ‘Impossible’ was mentioned a lot in the office that day but like my mother says, just add a space and impossible becomes ‘I’m possible.’
After witnessing my mother’s miraculous recovery, reading about others’ self-healing and watching the awe-inspiring documentaries, I thought ‘If they can do it, why can’t I?’
This is exactly what I intend to do.
Where to start?
The best place to start is at the beginning. I started to apply my current skills to help myself; nutrition, holistic health and life coaching. I cleaned up my diet and added some beneficial fruits and vegetables (it really wasn’t that bad to start with but I made some tweaks). I added foods that help reduce inflammation in the body as well as improve the immune system, gut and joints. I also eliminated some that would increase the inflammatory response. I used my holistic health expertise to incorporate some aromatherapy, energy medicine (specifically Reiki) and meditation as well as utilised my life coaching to start making goals and producing a plan.
Furthermore, I needed to move my body. I already walk twice a day with my gorgeous fur baby but really needed to incorporate extra ways. Gym was out of the question as I didn’t want to partake in jumping around (probably doing more damage) and I didn’t like the energy with people ogling at themselves in the mirrors (or worse still, taking selfies of themselves lol), so we bought a treadmill. I can add faster and longer walks now (rain, hail or shine) but still I needed something to strengthen my back. Hence, I began Yoga, with private, tailored sessions. My yoga sessions are wonderful, they incorporate meditation, stretches and strength building all in a peaceful, quiet studio. Another form of exercise that is perfect for Osteoarthritis is swimming but I need access to a pool (and don’t get me started on the awful things floating around in our public pools)! For now that will have to wait.
My next step was to add supplementation.
These had to be herbals and pure extracts, not synthetics. I didn’t want anything that had nutritionally devoid fillers or sweeteners added. This was a feat on its own. I knew what herbs I wanted but couldn’t find all of them in one capsule and I didn’t want to be taking five or six different herbal supplements with herbs I didn’t need.
What to do?
I started to research how to make my own. This way I knew exactly what was going into each capsule. I found a great recipe online as a base but I revamped it and added some other ingredients that I knew were as, if not more beneficial. Then I had my recipe sighted by a qualified herbalist. After I got the go ahead I started to make and take them. One in the morning with breakfast and one at night with dinner. It’s important to take them with food as they can cause upsets on an empty stomach.
After using these home-made capsules for a couple of weeks, I started sleeping well, having less pain and just feeling better all round. I shared the recipe with some friends and family and am happy to announce that they also have had great results.
So I thought, why keep this information to myself when a lot of others could benefit. Therefore, due to the demand to know what the recipe is I am sharing it with everyone today. I do have a few stipulations though. Firstly,
Before using seek the advice of your naturopath, GP or Herbalist as some of the herbs found in the capsules can be a contraindication with certain medications and/or illnesses.
If you come across a herb or herbs that you can’t use, please leave it out. It won’t change the effectiveness of the other ingredients.
This is a recipe that I have made. This is to be shared for no profit and only to be used for individual use. Unless you are a qualified herbalist or naturopath, please do not make these capsules to sell. Only qualified professionals will have the ability and insurance to make these available for profit to the public. This can only be done with my permission as the recipe is copyrighted and my brand name is trademarked.

With that out of the way, let’s take a quick tour of…….
Moringa Oleifera, otherwise known as Moringa Leaf Powder, is full of robust anti-oxidants that act against free radicals in the body. As we are aware, high volumes of free radicals can cause excess oxidative stress which can lead to dis-ease. It is also highly nutritious, containing protein, Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Calcium, Iron, Vitamin A, Phosphorus, Potassium and Magnesium. Moringa may also lower blood sugar levels, reduce inflammation and lower cholesterol.
Silybum Marianum better known as Milk Thistle has anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties as well as being an anti-oxidant. It is great for reducing inflammation and protecting the liver. It may also be valuable for protecting against bone loss. Acts as an aid in the treatment of cancer, lowers blood sugar and can also help treat acne sufferers.
Withania Somnifera or Ashwagandha as more commonly known, acts as an adaptogen, meaning it can help your body manage stress. It can also help lower blood sugar, has anti-cancer properties and can lower cortisol levels. Excess cortisol levels are the main culprits when it comes to oxidative stress. Cortisol is a normal hormone that is produced in a stressful situation and can help a fight or flight response, however, excess cortisol can hinder our health. This is when the stressful feelings do not retreat and cortisol is constantly being released. It can also help with depression, anxiety and also reduces inflammation. Additionally it’s being used to increase testosterone and fertility with men.
Bacopa Moneri, ordinarily called Brahmi is also an adaptogen that can help deal with stress. It improves cognition, memory formation and can reduce anxiety. It promotes neuron communication and is another anti-oxidant.
Camellia Sinensis popularly called Matcha Green Tea can help prevent cardiovascular disease. It is also a great source of phytochemicals which can boost your immune system, protect your body from toxins and other harmful agents that can cause cellular damage.
Curcuma Longa, better known as Curcumin the extract found in Turmeric is a great anti-inflammatory agent. Helps with digestive problems, osteoarthritis, cancer as well as diabetes, bacterial and viral infections. Certain prescription drugs, if you suffer from gallstones, are pregnant or nursing are all contraindicated with Curcumin, so please speak with your doctor or naturopath first.
Piper Nigrum or Piperine is a potent extract collected from peppercorns. Piperine protects against oxidative cell damage by inhibiting free radicals. It also aids digestion and makes nutrients more bio-available. This is why you will find piperine is in most good quality supplements as it aids in the uptake of the different herbal constituents, especially curcumin.
Boswellia Serrata, a species of Frankincense is well known for its pain relief and anti-inflammatory properties. It is accepted as an aid to help osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis as well as asthma and IBD. It is also becoming a popular addition to breast cancer and leukaemia treatments with studies showing one of the acids found within the Boswellia Serrata extract, the AKBA (Acetyl-11-keto-Beta-Boswellic Acid) having significant effects.
Myrciaria Dubia or Camu Camu has exceptionally high amounts of Vitamin C helping to boost the immune system. It is also important for wound healing, maintaining the health of our bones and teeth and can aid in the reduction of inflammation within our bodies. It also contains a myriad of flavonoids, amino acids, gallic, ellagic acid, fibre, carotenoids, copper and manganese. This powerful extract can help cognitive function, aid digestion, facilitate muscle growth and help lower your risk of cancer, macular degeneration and type 2 diabetes.
This powerhouse of herbal extracts will have you sleeping better at night and increased energy during the day. It will help lessen pain and inflammation in the body and promote your mental health. It really is a great all-rounder for your body.
So what will you need?
- Capsule Maker
- Size ‘00’ capsules
- Bowl & spoon
- Mask (optional)
- Gloves (optional)
A capsule maker you can purchase off EBay for a small price. I have one that does 100 capsules at a time. When purchasing one, make sure it takes your size of capsule.
The capsules I use are also vegan and 100% natural but you can use any you prefer. The scales should do gram increments as the measuring is quite precise. You should be able to place your bowl on the scales, setting it to zero, then add your first powder and reset after each addition, so you only have to use the one bowl. The mask and gloves are optional, however, when mixing some powder can be inhaled so the mask can prevent respiratory problems. The gloves are to protect your hands as the powder can be quite messy.
The powders you will need:
Try to purchase powdered extracts where you can as they are more bio-available and will have a better result.
